Written and Built by Gretchen Elsner
Illustrated by Nathan Matthews
This accordion book of five spreads is the author’s living will juxtaposed with the philosophically rendered story of the suicide of a friend’s father accomplished by his ingestion of contaminated nuclear waste soil. The story is a gentle ten section prose poem about surrender as opposed to sacrifice, and about the powers of unfolding transformation. Each spread is made with origami forms and illustrated by artist Nathan Matthews. The books are made of paper, card and wood pages, and created by hand in editions of fifty.
